Buckwheat Hull & Buckwheat Pillows

Buckwheat Hull Pillows

Buckwheat hull is a natural and renewable product. Buckwheat hull pillows have been used in Asia for centuries. The Buckwheat Hull Pillow is a healthy, comfortable and anatomically correct support for your head, neck and shoulders. Many health care professionals recommend buckwheat hull pillows.

The buckwheat hull in our pillows is grown on the tablelands of NSW and southern QLD. After harvest it is dehulled, cleaned and filled into Australian woven 100% cotton cases, sewn and assembled in NSW, Australia. The Buckwheat Hull Pillow moulds to the shape of your head and neck. Plump up the pillow, then burrow your head in while leaving your shoulders on the bed. Adjust the position if necessary so that your neck is fully supported. Our pillows are zippered so you can add more hull or remove hull for a fuller or flatter pillow. As with any new pillow it may take a few days or so to adjust; as soon as you do you'll never want to sleep on another pillow ever again.  Buckwheat hull rustles slightly when you move your head, while noticeable at first, after a couple of nights you just don't hear it any more.

The Buckwheat Hull Pillow will last for at least 10 years, please see below for easy care instructions.

The Buckwheat Hull Pillow is available in SMALL, STANDARD, EXTRA-FULL and a LUMBAR SUPPORT pillow.

Our BULK BUY CARTONS are suitable for retailers or large families and are available for our Standard and Extra Full pillows.

The Buckwheat Hull Pillow Care Instructions

Please use a standard normal pillow case on your buckwheat hull pillow, like you would with any other pillow.

Please remove and wash your standard normal pillow case regularly, like you would with any other pillow.

The Buckwheat Hull Pillow comes with a zip.

If your pillow becomes stained or requires washing, please remove the hull first. Empty the hull into a bucket or large container, and wash the cotton outer in your normal wash cycle.

Very, very occasionally insects may decide your pillow is a great place to live, it is a natural product after all!

If this happens, you have 2 easy options:

  1. Simply freeze your pillow.  Note: if insects have been present for 10-20 days they may have had time to lay eggs.  If this has happened you may need to refreeze your pillow if they hatch.  Freezing for 10 days straight will kill any insect eggs but you may not manage without your pillow for that long! OR

  2. Remove the hull and spread on trays and place in a warm (not hot) oven for approx 15 minutes.  It just needs to be hot to touch, just enough to kill little insects/and or eggs.

Every year or so, it's a good idea to give your pillow a "general clean", as over time the hull rubs against itself and fine particles can form.

Simply sift the hull in a colander (or coarse sieve) to remove any fine particles and then spread the hull on trays or a sheet and lay it in the sun to freshen it up.

At the same time, wash the cotton outer in your normal wash cycle.

The Buckwheat Hull Pillow should last at least 10 years, after this time it may require a small top up of fresh hull to replace the fines that have been sifted out.
